Threshers

Rice Thresher

The Supreme rice thresher is built specifically for paddy, which grips its grain more tightly than wheat but breaks more easily once freed. Manufactured in Faisalabad by Supreme Agri Implements, it threshes and cleans paddy in one operation while protecting the grain quality that determines milling yield.

What does a rice thresher do?

Paddy presents the opposite problem to wheat. The grain is held firmly on the panicle, so it needs sufficient beating action to come free โ€” but the husked kernel inside is brittle, and any grain cracked during threshing will shatter again in the mill. Head rice recovery, which is what a rice mill actually pays for, is set in large part at the thresher.

This machine uses a threshing action and cleaning arrangement matched to paddy rather than a wheat drum pressed into service. Straw is handled differently too: rice straw is tougher, wetter and more fibrous than wheat straw, and will wrap and choke a machine not designed for it.

Paddy is usually threshed at higher moisture than wheat, which affects both separation and how quickly the crop must move to drying. Feeding the machine at a steady rate rather than in surges gives the most consistent sample.

Key features

  • Paddy-optimized design
  • Gentle threshing
  • High throughput
  • Easy maintenance

What is the Rice Thresher used for?

  • Threshing and cleaning harvested paddy before drying
  • Custom threshing during the rice harvest in Punjab and Sindh
  • Basmati and coarse rice varieties alike

What to keep in mind

  • Head rice recovery is decided at threshing โ€” gentler settings pay for themselves at the mill.
  • Rice straw is tough and wraps easily; check and clear the drum area more often than you would on wheat.
  • Move threshed paddy to drying promptly, as it comes off the machine at a higher moisture than wheat.

Rice Thresher โ€” questions and answers

Why use a dedicated rice thresher instead of a wheat thresher?

Paddy holds its grain more tightly but cracks more easily once threshed, and rice straw is wetter and more fibrous. A wheat thresher set aggressively enough to free paddy will usually damage the kernel, reducing head rice recovery and the price the mill pays.

Does the rice thresher work for basmati?

Yes. Basmati's long, slender grain is more fragile than coarse varieties, which makes gentle threshing action more important rather than less. Set the machine conservatively and check the sample regularly for broken grain.

At what moisture should paddy be threshed?

Paddy is normally threshed at a higher moisture content than wheat and must then move quickly to drying to prevent discolouration and spoilage. Threshing too dry increases shattering losses in the field before the crop even reaches the machine.
