Seed Grader

The Supreme seed grader cleans seed and sorts it by size across a series of interchangeable screens. Manufactured in Faisalabad by Supreme Agri Implements, it removes chaff, dust, weed seed and the small shrivelled fraction that would otherwise be planted or sold alongside good grain.

What does a seed grader do?

Seed straight from a thresher is a mixture. Alongside the grain you want are broken kernels, chaff, dust, soil, weed seed and a fraction of small, poorly filled grains. Planting that mixture means planting the weak fraction too, and those seeds germinate poorly or produce weak seedlings that never catch up.

A grader separates by size using stacked screens: material too large stays on top, material too small falls through, and the target fraction is retained. Changing screens changes the size bands, so the same machine handles wheat, rice, pulses and other crops.

The gain shows up in two places. Graded seed germinates more uniformly and meters far more accurately through a seed drill, because the metering mechanism is handling consistently sized grain rather than a mixture. And grain sold for consumption attracts a better price when it arrives clean and uniform rather than full of chaff and dust.

Key features

  • Multiple screens
  • Precise grading
  • High throughput
  • Easy screen change

What is the Seed Grader used for?

  • Preparing farm-saved seed for the next planting
  • Cleaning and sizing grain before sale to improve the price
  • Removing weed seed from a seed lot
  • Grading pulses, rice and other crops by changing screens

What to keep in mind

  • Screen selection is the whole job โ€” pick sizes that match your crop and target grade.
  • Grade seed before storage, not after; clean seed stores better and attracts fewer insects.
  • Removing weed seed at grading prevents planting next season's weed problem with the crop.

Seed Grader โ€” questions and answers

Why should farm-saved seed be graded?

Ungraded seed carries chaff, dust, weed seed and a fraction of small, poorly filled grains. Planting that mixture means sowing the weak fraction alongside the good, which germinates poorly and produces weak seedlings. Grading removes it before it costs you a stand.

Does grading improve seed drill accuracy?

Significantly. A drill's metering mechanism works on volume, so it delivers a far more consistent rate when handling uniformly sized grain than when handling a mixture of large, small and broken kernels.

Can one grader handle different crops?

Yes. The screens are interchangeable, and changing them changes the size bands the machine separates on โ€” so the same grader can run wheat, rice, gram and other crops by fitting the appropriate screen set.
